Days Three and Four - Not another blog about the weather, geez

We rolled out of Salt Lake City on Saturday morning for the final leg to Moab. We'd love to describe some fun adventure on the road, but it was a highly uneventful 3 hours.

If you've never been to Moab, the sense of anticipation as you head south on US-191 from I-70 is amazing. At first it's just the same scrubby high desert landscape all around, but as you get closer, things start to poke up out of the ground and new colors appear here and there. Once you pass the Moab Airport, pretty soon you roll around a big curve...and the world turns red. It's amazing. Here are a series of pictures as we arrived down the highway. They aren't the best quality because they were taken through a window, but the array of colors you see in the rocks is otherworldly.

We made the decision to stay in an RV campground, because there are a number of rallies this weekend so we figured camping would be tight. Most campgrounds in Moab are first-come, first-served and when you have to fit a 40 foot long home away from home in the campsite...probably best to take the reservation. We are in the Portal RV park, very nice people, and a good clean spot to be. It's full, but we don't feel too crowded. Best of all, it comes complete with a swimmin hole!

Here comes a winter storm! Sunday was predicted to be the worst day of our time here, and Saturday night got it warmed up. It wasn't too terribly cold but we saw plenty of lightning and thunder. We were able to hang out in the motor home most of the evening, then Dan and Amy braved the hurricane to hunker down in the tent. Actually, it was fine..we were warm and cozy listening to the rain and wind try and beat us up from the outside. Sunday morning dawned bright and sunny, but it didn't last long - the bulk of the storm hit with torrential rain and hail. Luckily we were able to escape to Twisted Sistas for lunch...great little spot and one of the few in Moab open for lunch AND dinner.

Storm's coming

Sunday being relatively uneventful, we'll be back with a report on our Monday explorations of Moab, since the skies look like they'll be clearing.

Was gonna post more pictures but the wifi here is saying no.
